Tooth-Coloured Fillings

At Belmont Dental Care, we offer white fillings. White fillings have a natural tooth like appearance and can be matched to your natural tooth colour. Advances in modern dentistry have made the use of metal fillings obsolete in most cases.

The solution for many types of cavities today is dental composite bonding. With composite bonding, the cavity is filled with a material that closely resembles the colour of your natural teeth; hence the term, “white filling.” The material is actually a combination of glass or quartz filler in resin.
Composite fillings are designed to not only provide long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing results for patients but also to restore and strengthen a tooth. In fact, most composite fillings, unlike the old metal fillings, involve removing only a small amount of natural tooth during a cavity-filling procedure.

Removing and Replacing Old Metal Fillings

We are recommending the replacement of older metal (mercury and amalgram) fillings with composite or porcelain fillings for the following reasons:

  • To improve the appearance of your smile
  • To fortify teeth weakened by the metal fillings.
  • Newer materials are approaching the longevity and positive attrition (wear) qualities of amalgam fillings.
  • Mercury vapour released during amalgam placement could be unhealthy not only for the patient but also for the dentist and assistant.
  • Mercury vapour continues to be released after the amalgam filling material becomes hardened within teeth.

Replacement of amalgam fillings is an easy way to make a big difference in your smile and your overall health.
